It has always been a comfort to many that “The Local '' was always there for you, through thick and thin, to celebrate or drown your sorrows. Each with its own unique styling and atmosphere. Where you would always run into a recognisable face, to whom you can discuss the day's trials and tribulations or share the weekly gossip within the community.
However due to various economic factors, one of which is the UK having one of the highest beer duties in the world which is putting many landlords under strain - they are struggling to withstand.
Also many more people are now drinking from home and purchasing their booze from
supermarkets which are becoming ever more affordable relative to income.
In this book, I have decided to document the out of business pubs in my local area which have either turned to wreck and ruin or have been repurposed.
As a means to keep a record of what once was.
The thought process for this project was quite simple, as long as the building still resembled a pub, despite being repurposed it would still make it into the project. This included the remanence of signage, outdoor lighting or anything that would give you the idea it was a pub at first glance.
I felt it was necessary to start this project before these once great buildings that were once the cornerstone of many communities are lost to time.
